Director Statement

As the creator of 'In Between the Sound of My Hummingbird,' I embarked on a deeply personal journey to explore the lingering scars of domestic violence through the lens of Ife Adebayo's story. Drawing from my own experiences and guided by a passion for storytelling, I meticulously crafted every aspect of this film to evoke a visceral and immersive experience for the audience.

From the outset, I knew that the visual language of 'In Between the Sound of My Hummingbird' would be paramount in conveying Ife's inner turmoil. Every frame was imbued with intentional color choices, from the warmth of Ife's childhood memories to the tones of her present-day struggles. These colors echoed not only in the costumes and set decoration but also in the subtle shifts of lighting and the fluidity of camera movement, guiding the audience deeper into Ife's psyche.

Through poetic imagery and evocative cinematography, I wanted to invite viewers to bear witness to Ife's moment in time—a journey marked by pain, but also by moments of quiet strength. By immersing ourselves in Ife's world, we confront the harsh realities of domestic violence and the profound impact it has on survivors long after the physical wounds have healed.

But beyond mere aesthetics, I wanted 'In Between the Sound of My Hummingbird' to be a testament to the power of storytelling to provoke change. It's a call to action against the pervasive silence that shrouds domestic abuse, urging us to listen, to empathize, and to stand in solidarity with survivors like Ife. Through this film, I hope to spark and add to a conversation—a conversation that challenges societal norms, amplifies survivor voices, and fosters healing and understanding.
